| VOLUNTEER
POLICY
Any
volunteer who has regular contact with athletes or
administrative or fiscal authority is required to submit a
Local Coach-Volunteer Application
and participate
in an authorized Special Olympics Indiana Coach-Volunteer
Orientation.
1.
Definition of Volunteer. A volunteer is
anyone who, without compensation or expectation
of compensation beyond reimbursement, performs a
task at the direction of and on behalf of SOIN.
2.
Recruitment.
Volunteers shall be recruited by SOIN on a
pro-active basis, with the intent of broadening and
expanding the volunteer involvement of the
community. Volunteers shall be recruited
without regard to gender, handicap, age, race or
other condition. The sole qualification for
volunteer recruitment shall be suitability to
perform a task on behalf of SOIN.
3.
Registration.
A volunteer must be officially accepted and enrolled
by SOIN prior to performance of the task.
Any
(Class I) volunteer who has regular contact with
athletes (coaches, chaperones) or administrative
authority is required to have a Local
Coach-Volunteer Application on file with the
County/Local Coordinator and the State Office and
attend a authorized Special Olympics Indiana
Coach-Volunteer Orientation.
Any
(Class II) single event and/or one-day volunteer
must sign in on the Single Event Volunteer
Registration form.
4.
Interview/Placement.
The appropriate volunteer manager to ascertain their
suitability for an interest in available positions
with interview all Class I volunteers in
person. A job description that is a clear,
complete, and current description of the duties and
responsibilities of the position will be given to
each accepted volunteer.
5.
Screening.
As appropriate for the protection of athletes and
the organization, Class I volunteers in certain
assignments and individuals who respond
affirmatively to any of the "Confidential
Information" questions on the
Local
Coach-Volunteer Application, will be asked to
submit to a criminal background check. These
applicants will be precluded from participation
pending SOIN screening procedures.
