A good cause
Public

About
3 weeks ago, TheStarPress reported on the
urgent fund-raising needs of our local Special
Olympics chapter. The athletes are scheduled
to compete soon and are suffering from a shortage of
dollars that are necessary to fund their travel as
well as various other expenses.
After
meeting with Paul King, a terrific local volunteer
who has his hands full coaching, administrating and
fund-raising for Special Olympics and running
his own business, I became even more convinced that
help was needed.
Thanks
to Paul's efforts combined with those of Ball State
associate athletic director Pat Quinn, many coaches
agreed to donate equipment and other items to the
cause.
After
making a few calls, we hit a home run with the great
people at Delta High School. Principal Pat
Mapes and DECA President Haley Bullock agreed to
donate the proceeds from one of their lunchtime
cookie sales. A check for $500 made payable to
Delaware County Special Olympics is already in hand.
Isn't
it amazing that buying and eating some cookies can
do so much good?
The
simple, creative and most generous plan that was
executed at Delta could be easily copied.
Anyone possessing the ability to raise a few dollars
for these athletes could call the Special Olympics
office, 287-0041.
Let's
try to ensure that these athletes get every chance
to compete.
